Are Electricians Key Workers?
Yes! Electricians are classed as key workers, under the current advice of the UK government.
Electricians fall into the category of “Utility workers” which also includes other trades such as plumbers, those working in oil and gas, and civil engineers in the nuclear sector, to name a few.
So, key workers, such as electricians, may continue travelling and working.
The UK government has issued guidance for those working in other people’s homes, as well as other settings where workers may be in close proximity to others. This includes clear advice about social distancing, PPE, and ensuring that all workers and residents of the household are well and symptom free.
There are also strict guidelines for electricians and tradespeople working commercially and on-site, with penalties imposed for those who are found to be disregarding the advice.
As usual, the minimum 2 metre distancing rules should be practised, and common sense and safety measures should be exercised.
During turbulent times it becomes even more apparent how much we rely on certain professions, in and out of our homes. Our values have become realigned as we recognise the importance of our essential workers; from the front-line healthcare sector to food production and everything in between.
